Congratulations!! We made it to the Eve of the New Year!!
As the year draws to a close, it’s important to celebrate and release 2021 before launching into 2022. I know, I know. I can hear you already – “Celebrate 2021?1?! Are you kidding me?!” I hear you.
While I know many of us would love to rush into the New Year and put 2021 in the rear view mirror, we would be missing out on an opportunity to learn from our diverse experiences and to reset the stage for a New Year designed with intention.
Everything that happened in 2021 served a purpose and, while it may not have felt like it, it also served your highest good. Some of your experiences may have felt good and some may have been crushing blows. Some of your experiences may make sense, while others may remain a mystery. Trust that you had the year you were meant to have and explore it with curiosity to see how it served you, how you learned and how you grew. How do you make the most out of all of your experiences, you ask?
The keys are:
Learn what there is to learn.
Release what there is to release.
Invite in what you want to experience in the New Year.
I’ve created some journal prompts to help you explore the past year and set the stage for the New Year. Are you ready for some reflection, intention and creation?
Start by creating a sacred space, pull out your favorite pens and journal or notebook (or your computer, pad, favorite electronic gadget). Start with a little meditation to clear your mind and be present to what the year has to reveal. Set an intention for your session.
As you look at 2021:
What were your top 3 crowning accomplishments?
What dream did you bring to life?
What areas did you develop and improve in your life?
What were your top 3 lessons and why? What did they teach you?
What was your proudest moment?
What was your number one challenge? Why? How did you handle it? How would the best version of yourself handle it?
What was your biggest disappointment? How did you handle it? How could you have handled it better knowing what you know now?
What was the biggest risk you took? How did it turn out? What did you learn from it?
What are you grateful for that occurred in 2021?
What do you need to complete 2021?
Now, let’s turn our attention to the New Year.
It’s time to focus on your new dreams, new goals and new areas to develop, expand and explore. What you focus on expands, so let’s take a closer look at what you want to focus on in 2022:
What are your top 3 priorities or goals for 2022?
Look ahead to December 31, 2022: What one huge dream/goal have you accomplished and are how are you celebrating it?
What habits are you choosing to develop this year to help you accomplish your goals?
What habits are you choosing to eliminate?
What training do you need to accomplish your goals?
What support systems do you currently have and which ones do you need?
Who can help mentor you?
What are you most committed to changing and improving in 2022 – both personally and professionally?
What area of your life are you willing to most stretch and grow?
What is a word or theme that will drive you in 2022?
If you put the time and attention on each of these questions, you will have a powerful foundation to launch into the New Year. I’d love to hear what you’re up to!! Share your top lesson from 2021 and your focus for 2022 in a comment below.
Here’s to a healthy, abundant and empowered New Year!
Carpe Diem!
Joan
