The finish line of Open Studios is in sight. The fourth and final day of Open Studios is September 25, 2016. I’ve celebrated something that is near and dear to my heart on each of the Open Studio’s days, and the grande finale is a celebration of our veterans as well as the active military, police officers and fire fighters. While I have never served in the military, I recognize that my freedoms stem from the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much that I can have my independence and the ability to live any life I desire. This Sunday, September 25, I want to say “Thank you!”
While my studio, located at 101 S. Coombs in Napa, will be open from 10:00 – 5:00, we have special activities from 12:00 – 3:00.
12:00 – 3:00 Games, food and fun to celebrate our service personnel and veterans. We’ll have games, the opportunity to paint your own canvas, and food provided by big-hearted Napa restaurants to round out a fun afternoon.
We’ve been working with the Veterans Home of California – Yountville, to reach out to the veterans and invite them for a day of celebration of their service. We will also be joined by members of the United States Army and we’ve invited Napa Police and Napa Fire Firefighters.
Operation: With Love From Home (OWLFH) will have a booth to share their mission and collect donations. OWLFH supports our deployed armed forces stationed in harm’s way. Supported by the Community Outreach Department at Queen of the Valley Medical Center, OWLFH counts on a group of non-partisan volunteers who recognize the need to keep our service men and women are in our hearts and prayers. The group actively supports their efforts and recognizes their sacrifices on behalf of our country.
To show support, three times a year the group works to collect donations to put together care packages for our troops abroad. Each package contains various items the troops need, such as: Boot socks, Kleenex, Batteries, Lip balm, Sunblock, Deodorant, Baby wipes and Disposable razors.
Each package also contains a hand-written letter of support and thanks. Sometimes, these packages are the only correspondence service members receive from home. They serve as a vital link to remind troops they are valued and loved. Please bring a donation or two for our troops to include in their next care package – they need the above highlighted items.
The following generous, big-hearted Napa vendors have donated food to say “THANK YOU!” to our veterans and service personnel:
Bounty Hunter Wine Bar & Smokin’ BBQ
Our creative partners include Home Depot and Napa Valley Art Supplies who donated art supplies so everyone has an opportunity to get creative at the studio.
Please stop in and give a HUGE “THANKS!!!” to all of our partners for their contributions to the arts, to the veterans and all service personnel!
Come join us for a festive day of celebration, art and gratitude.
