I was recently reminded how to intentionally create what you want in life by a young boy who masterfully executed the process.

It started on an ordinary morning at a local coffee shop.

I had a full week of client breakthroughs and a few personal growth moments, so I decided to savor a few quiet minutes in reflection with my coffee.

As I sat watching the swirl of life around me, I noticed a young boy who wanted a straw from the counter. The problem? It was out of reach.

His mom encouraged him to figure out how to get it on his own. I could see the determination in his face as he stretched toward the container, but came up short again and again.

While out of character for me, I was nudged into action. I walked over to their table and with mom’s permission, I asked the little boy if he could help me. I shared that I needed a coffee stirrer, next to the straws as fate would have it, and I could use some help.

His eyes lit up. Together, we approached the counter. I lifted him, he grabbed a stirrer for me, then proudly reached for his straw. I thanked him, returned to my seat, and watched as he stared at that straw, and me, with wide-eyed wonder.

In that moment, I smiled and thought:

I just got to be part of the cosmic delivery system.

Watching that moment unfold, I realized it was a perfect illustration of how life really works when we create with intention. What happened between that child, his mother, and me wasn’t coincidence — it was a living demonstration of the process to intentionally create what you want in life.

How do I Intentionally Create My Life?

Intentionally creating your life is a conscious daily practice combined with trusting the support of the Universe to fill in the gaps. It’s built on the foundation that you are inherently worthy and deserving of what you want in life.  Then, you build on this foundation by deciding what you want, believe it’s possible, expect the best outcome, take inspired action on it, allow it to be delivered with the help of the Universe, and receive it with gratitude.

Let’s explore each of these steps in more detail.

Step 1: Remember You Are Worthy

Worthiness is the foundation on which every step of the intentional creation process is built.

Worthiness is an innate state of being. You were born worthy and there is nothing you have to do to “earn” it.

We’re often conditioned to believe we need to be “good enough” to be worthy.  But there is no standardized measurement for “good enough” or “doing enough” to be worthy.   It’s an elusive, made-up metric that keeps us looking outside of ourselves for what is inherently within us.

Reconnecting with your worthiness isn’t about earning something that’s outside of you. It’s about remembering what’s already true. Before the world taught you to earn love, prove value, or justify your dreams, you simply knew you were enough.

That little boy never questioned his worthiness. He knew he deserved that straw. There was no hesitation, no inner conflict, just pure certainty that his desire mattered to him and he was going to get it.

That is the essence of alignment throughout this process:  a childlike knowing that you are inherently deserving and can have what you want.

When you return to that truth, everything you desire becomes accessible. Life starts to meet you where you believe you belong.

To explore this more deeply, read my article The Truth About Worthiness

Reflection Prompt:

  • Where have I been holding back from myself because I doubted my worthiness to receive it?
  • What could change if I believe I am worthy right now to receive anything I desire?

Step 2: Clarify What You Truly Want

Clarity is the second ingredient to intentionally create what you want in life.

The little boy knew exactly what he wanted. There was no hesitation, no doubt, just a clear desire. That clarity set everything in motion.

We often get disconnected from declaring what we want. Fear of disappointment, judgment, or rejection can cause us to shrink our desires before they ever take shape.

But life responds to clarity and honors bold declarations. When you know what you want and declare it, you set yourself in motion and signal to the Universe to start aligning possibilities on your behalf.

From a place of worthiness, give yourself full permission to want what you want. It doesn’t have to be big, profound, or life-changing, and it can be if that’s what you want! Be honest, clear and dedicated.

Journal Prompt:

What do I want right now? I give myself full permission to name it clearly without holding back, settling, shrinking or being afraid.

Step 3: The Profound Powers of Belief and Expectation

Belief is the bridge between wanting and receiving. Expectation is the energy that keeps that bridge strong.

When you believe in what you desire and expect to receive it, you shift your energy from uncertainty to certainty, from possibility to probability.
Coach Joan Jakel

Belief is formed by what you think on repeat.

What thoughts do you cultivate?

Do they empower you and or limit you?

Do they tell you how capable you are?

Do they tell you this is your time and you have exactly what it takes to achieve what you desire?

Do they tell you that you can do anything you set your mind to?

For help in identifying limiting beliefs and transforming them into empowered beliefs to achieve your desires, read my blog post:  You Create Your Own Reality

Expectation amplifies belief.

Expectation is not control; it’s confidence. It says, “I trust that what I desire is already on its way.”

When we expect a certain outcome, our brain’s filtering system pays attention and actively looks for it. Have you ever decided to buy a certain kind of car or adopt a particular type of dog and suddenly you see them everywhere?! They were always there, your brain just filtered them out as non-relevant.

Once you decide what’s important and expect it, your brain will find ways to deliver.

That little boy never stopped believing he would get that straw. He held his focus with certainty and trust and expected it to be in his hand. The Universe delivered through an unexpected source — me.

Reflection Tip:

What are you inviting your brain to find for you right now? Success and achievement or failure and disappointment?

Step 4: Inspired Action Leads to Aligned Results

Action is essential, but not just any action. The magic happens when we take inspired action — the kind that comes from intuition rather than logic.

Inspired action is how we move toward our desires in a way that’s aligned and alive, rather than forced or frantic.

Inspired action often shows up as a nudge, like when I was moved to go help the little boy by asking him to help me.

Sometimes that nudge won’t make sense. It might be a feeling, a thought, or a whisper urging you to reach out, take a step, or try something new. Trust it. It’s your inner compass guiding you toward your desire.

To learn more about how you can identify, access and engage inspired action, check out my blog post: The Art of Inspired Action: A Path to Effortless Success

Inspired action moves us closer to what we desire. It also signals readiness and puts the assistance of the Universe in motion, calling forth synchronicity and serendipity.

The boy didn’t need a grand gesture; he only needed to act in the way he knew how. Then, the Universe delivered me to help him get the rest of the way to achieve his goal.

Journal Prompt:

Check in with yourself and ask: What is one small inspired action I’m feeling nudged to take today toward what I want in life? Get out of your head and feel your way into the answer. The crazier the nudge, the more direct the path.

Step 5: The Dynamic Duo: Allowing and Receiving

Allowing and receiving are the quiet partners in the intentional creation process. People often discover hidden blocks with this duo.  Not because they don’t want what they desire, but because they haven’t been taught the importance of allowing and may question if they deserve receiving it.  This is an important time to reconnect with the foundation of worthiness.

Allowing is a commitment to being expansive and giving yourself permission to welcome what you desire into your life. It’s an active form of surrender that says, “I’m open. I’m ready. I trust. I allow.”

Allowing gives way to receiving. Receiving is the open-hearted “Welcome Home!” to your desire.  It’s the celebration for honoring the path to achieve it. When you celebrate its arrival, be sure to add gratitude.  Gratitude is a nod to the Universe, thanking it for its support.

The boy and his mom, happily allowed me to help him.  They were both so grateful to receive the help to receive the coveted prize – his very own straw. The smiles, the amazement, and the delight in the outcome radiated joy, a perfect “thank you!” to the Universe and me.

Practice Tips:
Notice where you may hesitate to receive good things. Accept the compliment with a simple “thank you.” Ask for the support you need without apology. Practice saying yes to what feels good. Give thanks for what you already have.
